Health Advice For Women at Each Stage of Motherhood

THURSDAY, May 11, 2023 (American Heart Association News) — Everyone knows that on Mother’s Day, Mom’s needs come first. But the rest of the year, mothers often put their health care on hold to focus on others.

“A lot of times as women, we tend to put ourselves last,” said Dr. Marlene Blaise, a cardiologist in independent practice in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Avoiding that is important for more than mothers themselves, said Jennifer Stuart, an epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

“It’s also important for our families,” said Stuart, who has a doctorate in epidemiology and focuses her research on adverse pregnancy outcomes and maternal cardiovascular disease risk. “As a parent, you’re laying down a foundation and modeling behaviors, healthy or otherwise, for your children. Pennsylvania House Rejects Animal Health Funding Plan | Livestock News

Pennsylvania Democrats defeated a plan Tuesday to shift money from food assistance to animal health.

The 100-101 vote on a budget amendment signaled the relative importance of Democratic and GOP priorities, but it isn’t the final word on the funding.

Rep. Dan Moul, R-Adams, proposed moving $6 million — Ag Department spending increases proposed by Gov. Josh Shapiro — to fund the Animal Health and Diagnostic Commission.

The commission was created in 1988 in response to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the state five years earlier.

The commission advises the department on animal health matters and supports the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System, which links the veterinary labs at Penn State, the University of Pennsylvania and the state Department of Agriculture.

The lab system’s rapid testing of samples from sick birds has been crucial to the state’s response to avian influenza, which returned to the state last

“We’re both perfectionists and are serious about taking care of our bodies,” said Bailee. “But my real interest in proper nutrition started after I developed an eating disorder in seventh grade. That led me to being more passionate about nutrition. It also led me to adding a psychology minor.”

Bailee said she sees nutrition as a “holistic” endeavor involving both body and mind.

“It took both my mind and body to overcome my eating disorder, so with a major in nutrition and minor in psychology, I feel I will be able to help others

How Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen rebuilt his mind and body to reach 400 saves

The path to 400 saves for Kenley Jansen began long ago. The first steps were taken July 25, 2010, at Dodger Stadium, to be exact, one day after he’d made his major league debut for the Dodgers. The 22-year-old Jansen entered after eight scoreless innings from Clayton Kershaw and induced a pop-up to short from Carlos Beltran before getting Jason Bay and Ike Davis to strike out swinging. Fifteen pitches and save No. 1 was in the books, securing a 1-0 win for the Dodgers over the Mets.

Fourteen seasons, 780 2/3 innings, 1,124 strikeouts, 3,088 batters faced, two heart surgeries, a trio of All-Star appearances, a World Series championship and three teams later, Jansen took the mound for the Red Sox against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night. Coincidentally, the Braves were the second big league team Jansen ever pitched for, notching 41 saves for Atlanta last year after
