“We’re both perfectionists and are serious about taking care of our bodies,” said Bailee. “But my real interest in proper nutrition started after I developed an eating disorder in seventh grade. That led me to being more passionate about nutrition. It also led me to adding a psychology minor.”

Bailee said she sees nutrition as a “holistic” endeavor involving both body and mind.

“It took both my mind and body to overcome my eating disorder, so with a major in nutrition and minor in psychology, I feel I will be able to help others

How Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen rebuilt his mind and body to reach 400 saves

The path to 400 saves for Kenley Jansen began long ago. The first steps were taken July 25, 2010, at Dodger Stadium, to be exact, one day after he’d made his major league debut for the Dodgers. The 22-year-old Jansen entered after eight scoreless innings from Clayton Kershaw and induced a pop-up to short from Carlos Beltran before getting Jason Bay and Ike Davis to strike out swinging. Fifteen pitches and save No. 1 was in the books, securing a 1-0 win for the Dodgers over the Mets.

Fourteen seasons, 780 2/3 innings, 1,124 strikeouts, 3,088 batters faced, two heart surgeries, a trio of All-Star appearances, a World Series championship and three teams later, Jansen took the mound for the Red Sox against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night. Coincidentally, the Braves were the second big league team Jansen ever pitched for, notching 41 saves for Atlanta last year after

US top health official sounds alarm on social media use by kids and adolescents

WASHINGTON – Social media can profoundly harm the mental health of young people, particularly adolescent girls, the United States Surgeon-General warned in an advisory on Tuesday, as he called for safeguards against tech companies for children who are at critical stages of brain development.

US Surgeon-General Vivek Murthy said that while social media offers some benefits, there are “ample indicators that social media could also harm children’s well-being”.

“We are in the middle of a national youth mental health crisis, and I am concerned that social media is an important driver of that crisis – one that we must urgently address,” Dr Murthy said.

Social media use may cause and perpetuate body image issues, affect eating behaviours and sleep quality, and lead to social comparison and low self-esteem, especially among adolescent girls, the advisory said, citing responses from a survey conducted among adolescents.

Plug gaps to ensure Odisha children get nutrition cover- The New Indian Express

The Orissa High Court’s direction to the state government to draw up an action plan to eliminate severe and moderate acute malnutrition by the year-end must serve as a wake-up call for the Naveen Patnaik administration. The court, hearing a PIL on malnutrition among children in the Jajpur district, deliberated on a host of issues that could be leading to the exclusion of children from the coverage of food and nutritional security despite a bouquet of Central and state schemes. It also widened the scope of the case and directed the administration of the neighbouring Keonjhar district to take stock of the situation. Both Jajpur and Keonjhar are mineral heartlands of Odisha; if the former is chromite-rich, the latter holds the bulk of iron ore reserves. Interestingly, Jajpur also happens to be the steel hub of the state. Ironically, the two districts that contribute substantially to Odisha’s envious mineral revenue
